In the highly refined Merlin X aluminum block, World Products has incorporated a significant number of key technical features that set it apart from the competition. And because it’s been designed specifically for the street, marine and Super drag class market, the price of the Merlin X is very competitive. Dollar for dollar, you won’t find a better value in big block technology. It’s manufactured to QS-9000 quality control standards. One easy-to-spot difference between the Merlin X block and others is the use of horizontal ribs. Not only do they look cool, but they also serve to improve engine cooling and reinforce the cylinder bores. Total bottom-end dependability is achieved through use of 1045 alloy steel billet splayed 4-bolt mains (much stronger than commonly-used 1020 steel) with genuine ARP main studs and bolts. The Merlin X is compatible with all GMC Gen IV components (cam location is standard), and is the best foundation for building a large displacement Big Block Chevy with total reliability. Factor in pricing that’s more than competitive, and you’ve got a winner!

Perhaps the most important factor is that the Merlin X has been designed for 100% compatibility with Chevrolet Mark IV components (no raised cams, etc.) and is intended for use in street and Sportsman competition. World Castings has incorporated every possible detail into the new Merlin Aluminum blocks.

Extra wide, dual pattern oil pan rails (see arrows at left) on 9.800" and 10.200"

blocks are drilled to accept both stock configuration  As themain oil galley has been moved, oil pan

rails can be machined for Stroker cranks without danger of hitting oil (or water) passages. 

Provisions for both left and right starter mounting suits a greater variety of oil pan and

chassis configurations.

The billet steel main caps install against close tolerance index channels to eliminate side- to-side

movement. Maximum strength allows for greater power with increased reliability.


Incredibly strong, billet steel, splayed 4 bolt main caps with ARP main studs are exclusively used .

9.800" and 10.200" caps are 8.200" wide,  Main saddles accept stock 2.750" crank journals with main cap bolt spacing

increased to permit line boring for 3.000" crank journals. Larger journals improve journal overlap

which in turn increases crankshaft strength.

 World Castings Merlin Block BulkHead

Solid front and rear bulkheads (arrow A at left) are a full 1.00" thicker top-to-

bottom than Chevy Bowtie bulkheads. This feature is specially important in

supercharged applications where Other blocks' bulkheads have a tendency to flex and  crack when

under extreme stress. You simply will NOT find a better design than the Merlin Block. Merlin blocks

are so rigid they actually make more power over the competition's by not flexing and throwing the

reciprocating assemblies out of alignment When the cheaper block flexes the reciprocating assemblies

have to also flex, but as they are moving cycle after cycle. The crankshaft develops cracks, sometimes

spins main bearings or sometimes its piston to connecting rod damage, The moving mass always takes

the toll. Be safe with your racing investment, get a Merlin Lite Superblock right off the bat.
