The best way is to install a 350 Chevy small block in your Jeep. The use of Chevy components can be accomplished through adapter plates and motor mounts. This procedure produces the best results in the long run since race rebuilding a Jeep engine can be a very costly venture due to the nature of hard to find parts. We can build a 350 Chevy with low end torque as it's design priority. By using special components in conjunction with proper porting techniques, a 350 Stump Puller Chevy Small Block conversion installed in you Jeep is unmatched in 4x4 climbing power while still retaining drive-ability on the street.
The next best way to improve the performance of your Jeep if engine swapping is out of the question is to install a LaPouttre TorqueMaster Jeep Performance Head. We remanufacture a special Jeep head and install lightweight oversized hardened racing valves, and performance port the head to utilize the increased flow potential that the new valves allow for. This makes a better breathing engine that can use the increased cam profiles that aftermarket Jeep component manufacturers market. We encourage the use of custom camshaft profiles and exhaust headers for our Jeep head application, since most aftermarket products are designed for the characteristics of a stock Jeep head and not for our proprietary TorqueMaster design. We use our air flow data and custom design a camshaft and header and intake assembly to further increase low end torque and throttle response. We put the power where you need it the most, when climbing over rocks and up hills without shuttering, stalling or spinning the tires and losing traction. These modifications increase drive-ability on the street since it makes for a more efficient engine at cruising speeds, and allows for better acceleration when your moving in and out of traffic, power when and where you need it.
To further increase your Jeep's potential, we manufacture short block assemblies with custom pistons and performance enhanced connecting rods. We utilize Nitrous enhanced custom made pistons because of their increased deck and wall thickness, they represent tighter quality control than their stock counterparts. These pistons are our own proprietary design, specialty manufactured for us by a JE Pistons, a major racing piston manufacturer, to our exact specifications. These pistons are made from the best alloy composites available to date, resulting in increased strength and durability. These are the trade off when not using nitrous injection off the bat, and the knowledge that you can safely add NOS in the future without having to rebuild the entire engine is also a nice feature.
We can remanufacture complete engine assemblies for your Jeep, and it is sad to say, that it costs less to produce a modified 350 Chevy Engine than it is to produce a LaPouttre TorqueMaster 6 cylinder Jeep engine. The Jeep engine modification is a costly procedure since most parts are custom one of a kind fabrications specially manufactured to our specifications. Most 350 Chevy engine aftermarket parts can be bought off the shelf from our distributors, and the specialty component manufacturers are more widely available, thus reducing price through competition for your racing part dollar. We are running in to more people who want to keep their Jeep a Jeep, and we will build what is right for your tastes and budget, but the bottom line is there is no replacement for displacement and you will get more horsepower dollar for dollar with the Chevy conversion.
Basic Engine parts for the Jeep consists of aftermarket intake manifolds, headers, and some camshafts manufactured by the same companies that supply us with our "big 3" auto parts. Mostly Holley carbs are used and are universal with their proprietary base flange. Our remanufactured TorqueMaster Jeep heads are custom built in our machine shop and are one of a kind. Our pistons and connecting rods are proprietary and custom built for us. Pistons are manufactured by JE Pistons in their California Factory to our exact specifications, resulting in the closest possible tolerance for our fabrications. Our custom camshafts, connecting rods, crankshafts, oil pumps and sump pans are built for us by various component companies and are subject to minimum production run orders and production setup fees.
The Jeep has undergone many versions through the years, from many different manufacturers. The Willey's corporation, the American jeep corporation, the AMC corporation, the Kaiser corporation are just a few of the corporations that have purchased and maintained the Jeep from its conception during the early days of world war two. Most of the time, the Jeep consisted of off the shelf manufactured parts from supply overruns of the big "3" American automotive manufacturers. A Jeep could contain a steering box made from General Motors, axles made from Dana, drive shafts from Chrysler, glass from ford, and then some parts there were proprietary "Jeep" all in the same vehicle, truly multi-American and multi national. To further complicate things, this combination could change from year to year. For the aftermarket parts manufacturer, this represented into a nightmare for making tooling and dies for these rarely sought after parts. This resulted in over priced parts that they rarely, if ever sold. They never recouped their engineering costs let alone tooling costs. Many of the original Jeep enthusiasts manufactured their own parts for racing or they converted parts from other manufacturers to their Jeep application, a practice that is still done to this day.
That depends upon the model and the year, since the Jeep patients were bought and sold to many companies through the years. You have to look at the history of the model, look up the vin numbers, and in the history books on who actually owned the company at that time and what parts were subcontracted, what parts were made in house. It all changes for this vehicle, depending upon the year, and even the month of manufacturer.
Stock OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) heads are very restrictive and do not "breath" very well. Stock heads are very restrictive in their airflow paths to and from the combustion chamber. Not allowing fuel/air mixture to pressurize or flow to the combustion chamber in the most efficient method possible, reduces available output power and torque to the rear wheels.
