*If you're even thinking about porting, guide plates, big springs or other mods; start with Sportsman II's. Mill, grind, poke or prod; you'll never get the Sportsman II's chamber shape or maximum proportions from OE or S/R Torquer. Stop at a bowl blend.

QUESTION: How much does it cost to turn a average OE castings into S/R Torquers? Ignore the 15-20cc intake runner volume gain, extra thick decks, and "new" value
Casting cost, cut for 2.020x1.600 valves, 3 angle valve job, screw-in rocker studs, and rebuild (boil, square decks, guides, etc.). Maybe add new hardened exhaust seats
-OE covers 95% (probably 99%) of factory castings owned by enthusiasts.-Yes, there were 2.02 "fuelie" heads made a long long time ago that perform as well as the World S/R Torquer. Those heads are now rare, in poor condition, expensive, bogus or all of the above.
-Yes, there are aftermarket heads that perform as well as the Sportsman II. But all of these heads are cast in aluminum, and sell for about $1200 to $1600--nowhere near the Sportsman II's assembled price of $800. Aluminum Sportsman II's are available for about $1,200 as well.
-Yes, there are aftermarket heads comparable to the 170cc S/R Torquer Most of these heads sell for $999, some $899 None are available for $485 bare or about $700 assembled. $700 with Manley valves and other quality parts!
