The front view of an 11.625" Merlin
Superblock (at left)shows its extra deck height, relocated main oil galley and a billet
steel 4-bolt front main bearing cap. The main oil galley (arrow at left) has been moved
alongside the camshaft journals to increase lubrication while greatly simplifying Stroker
machining. The cam location on 11.625" blocks is raised .400" to accommodate
extra large stroke/rod combinations. Each Merlin block accepts all factory accessories
including the clutch pivot boss and fuel pump boss. Additional webbing ties all bolt
bosses together for maximum rigidity.
This picture
reveals four extra head bolt bosses (arrows)on both sides of the intake valley that match
the bolt patterns of Chevy and Olds/ Pontiac pro stock heads. Head bolt holes are blind
tapped to eliminate the potential for water leaks. Reinforced (.625" thick) deck
surfaces improve head gasket sealing. On all three block versions, cylinder wall thrust
areas are at least .400" thick @ 4.625" bore diameter. 9.800" and
10.200" versions are shipped with 4.430" Siamese bores while 11.625"
Superblock bores measure 4.490". All three blocks can be bored up to 4.625".
Lifter bores are indexed and reinforced.
World Products
incorporated every possible detail into the new Merlin blocks. Extra wide, dual pattern
oil pan rails (see arrows at left) on 9.800" and 10.200" blocks are drilled to
accept both stock configuration and Olds DRCE style oil pans. 11.625" Superblocks
feature an Olds DRCE pan rails that are already machined for Stroker clearance. As the
main oil galley has been moved, oil pan rails can be machined for Stroker cranks without
danger of hitting oil (or water) passages. An 11.625" Superblock will accommodate a
5.600" crankshaft. The oil filter boss, as shown at the left, has been moved outward
.550" to accommodate large Kickout oil pans. Provisions for both left and right
starter mounting suits a greater variety of oil pan and chassis configurations. The billet
steel main caps install against close tolerance index channels to eliminate side- to-side
movement. Maximum strength yields greater potential for power and reliability.
Incredibly
strong, billet steel, splayed 4 bolt main caps with ARP main studs are exclusively used
(above photo). 9.800" and 10.200" caps are 8.200" wide, while 11.625"
blocks feature 8.875" wide intermediate caps. Main saddles accept stock 2.750"
crank journals with main cap bolt spacing increased to allow for line boring of
3.000" crank journals. Larger journals increase journal overlap which in turn
increases crankshaft strength.
Solid front
and rear bulkheads (arrow A at left) are a full 1.00" thicker top-to-bottom than
Chevy Bowtie bulkheads. This feature is specially important in supercharged applications
where other blocks' bulkheads have a tendency to flex and even crack. You simply will NOT
find a better design than the Merlin Block. Merlin blocks are so rigid they actually make
more power over the competition's by not flexing and throwing the reciprocating assemblies
out of alignment When the cheaper block flexes the reciprocating assemblies have to also
flex, but as they are moving cycle after cycle. The crankshaft sometimes cracks,
sometimes spins main bearings or sometimes its piston to connecting rod damage, The moving
mass always takes the toll. Be safe with your racing investment, get a Merlin Superblock
right off the bat and forget about block flex.

This Water Jacket Filler is a specially formulated cement based material with combined iron particles. HardBlok has the same thermal expansion coefficient as cast iron, so they will expand and contract at the same rate. Hard Blok is permanent and can not be removed after it has hardened. This stuff is for high performance street/marine use and all out racing since it helps to eliminate block flexing and cracks in not so strong racing engine blocks by filling up the water jackets. Blocks with water jacket filler installed become stronger, Period. Some drag racers use water jacket filler after their blocks develop water jacket leaks, to extend the life of the block. Short fills can strengthen the bottom of the cylinders and may be used with continuos use i.e. street/marine as long as certain precautions are taken and the application is not one prone to overheating. This works exceptionally for "Stroker Engines" where the bottom of the block has to be machined to accept the longer crankshaft throws, the machining process may reduce the strength of the bottom areas of the cylinders, where they meet the block. Hard Bloc is used where the possibility of stress cracks and leaks may develop where the metal has been machined for crank clearance. In these instances the bottom inch of the block can be filled without adverse effects. This is not for long haul, endurance/industrial engines, where an aftermarket should be used. This method of strengthening should not be used with engines that have questionable cooling system operations or are prone to overheating. One tall fill unit will fill most big blocks to bottom of water pump hole.

Block castings are not precise. One side may vary from the other. Variance between blocks can be considerable.H & H is not responsible for this variance. One TALL FILL Unit will fill most big blocks to the bottom of the water pump connection. In certain tall deck blocks, the fill level may be an inch or so lower. This level is adequate to stiffen the cylinder walls. Order the TALL FILL Unit for 350 cubic inch and larger blocks. Order the SHORT FILL Unit for circle track and street rod applications. Detailed instructions and contingency decals are shipped in each unit. To avoid coolant flow restrictions, check flow requirements and the pattern of your particular block before filling.HARD BLOK becomes permanent and cannot be removed after hardening.
